Just Dance – The Wii party game people love and hate

I have rarely seen people love and hate the same game as much Just Dance for Wii. Its pretty popular – having sold over 4 million copies. 4 million is a big number, its now in the Top 5 3rd party Wii games ever!

I initially didn’t really bother checking this out considering the 2.0 Terrible rating (out of 10) at IGN. Even Gamespot had a Mediocre 5.5 rating.  These are two sites I respect tremendously. Surprisingly Amazon had the 4.5 (out of 5) from over 600 people, that made me check this out.

The first time I started the game, Rubal and I liked the game. I couldn’t really manipulate the controls to get a good score, I had to dance, and dance well. Event my “dancing well” is a pretty poor score, and I felt the pain the Gamespot and IGN people might have felt. We played a couple of times, were tired and forgot about it.

Next time we had some friends and family visiting, we tried the game again. This is where the MAGIC happened. My 50 something mom and aunt wanted to play it again and again. My 60 something uncle was winning non-stop beating everybody. Here we had people who were playing on the Wii for the first time, and were hooked.

Pros -

  • No learning curve, everybody can dive right in
  • Lots of fun
  • Good work out

Cons -

  • Limited Song Selection
  • Controls are not 100% accurate

Just Dance 2 for Wii is due to be released in Oct 2010, looks promising as well.
